How To Trade Crypto

You want to learn how to trade crypto. Well, it’s easy. Buy low and sell high, right? Well, there is a little more to it than that. Did you know you can also make money when the price of a coin is going down? It’s called shorting.

Trading crypto does not have to be complicated and is not hard to learn. In fact, the way I trade using technical analysis and a checklist is very simple. The strategies I use also work on any time frame on any market, not just crypto.

Stick around, and I will show you how you can start learning How To Trade Crypto | Successfully.

What it Takes to Trade Crypto Successfully.

Trading crypto is no different than trading anything else, really. You find an exchange to trade on, open a trading account, fund it, place a trade and hope it goes in the right direction so you can make a profit.

Apart from finding a good exchange to trade on and opening an account to be a successful crypto trader, you will need a few other things. If you want to be successful, you MUST have a good trading plan.

Your Trading Plan

A good trading plan is a strict set of pre-determined rules.
If you can’t write down your plan, you have not got one. A trading plan is basically what it says. It should be a plan of how you will trade, and it should be thorough and include ALL details about your trading.

Your Trading Strategy

StrategyYour strategy is NOT your trading plan. There are thousands of good trading strategies out there. You only need to have a slight edge in the markets to be successful. A good strategy will form part of your trading plan but is only a small part of the overall picture.

I use technical analysis for my strategy. I use a few simple indicators on my charts and a checklist. If I can tick all the boxes on the checklist, I can place a trade. If it does not tick the boxes, there is NO trade, simple.

I like trading this way because it is not subjective at all. There is no maybe. It either meets the rules, or it does not. I trade what I see, NOT what I think. You need to take the emotion out of your trading. Trading psychology will also play a massive part in your success as a trader.

Your Trading Psychology

It doesn’t matter what sort of trader you are or what market you trade; psychology will play a massive part in your success. If your head is not in the right space for trading, I guarantee you will lose. Every market is driven by fear and greed. You need to learn to control your emotions if you want to make money from the market.

This is why I personally use the checklist approach. It works well to keep emotions in check and is NOT subjective.

Why Trade CryptoBitcoin

I have been trading for over 15 years. I have traded options, futures, stocks & FX, but nothing compares to crypto. I love how the crypto markets move, yes it is volatile, but that makes for excellent trading. The fact that the crypto markets are open 24/7 is a bonus as well. You can choose to trade whenever it suits.

I trade because there is potential to make massive returns from small market moves with minimal risks. I only ever risk 1% of my trading bank on any one trade. I trade to generate profits that I can then invest.

I only trade perpetual futures contracts on the FTX exchange because I can short them, which means I can profit when the market is going down. I love trading crypto because it is dynamic. The strategies I use are simple, you can trade whenever you like on any timeframe, and the profit potential is massive with little risk.

Where to Start

Education is the key to learning anything. Applied knowledge is power. You need to educate yourself, sure you can learn it all on your own through a lot of trial and error, but that would be very costly in the crypto market.

The fastest way is to copy someone already successful. You need to find a good mentor, someone that can guide you, someone with experience in the market. I have been lucky and had some good mentors over the years, and I guess that is why I am still in the game.

I was lucky when I first started exploring crypto because I found Trader Cobb.

TraderCobb

Craig Cobb is an expert full-time crypto trader with over 15 years of experience in the markets. When I started with Trader Cobb, the only options were paid courses. Well, now he has made the first part of his course available for FREE.

The free course covers absolutely everything you need to get started, including setting up charts and opening accounts.
It covers all the basic that you will need to continue to become a master trader.

If you want to learn how to trade crypto, the Trader Cobb Free Course is the best place to start your journey.

When to Trade

One of the things I love about crypto markets and the way I trade is that you can trade whenever you want, and you can spend as much or as little time as you want to trade. The crypto market is open 24/7 and anytime is good to trade, even on the weekends if you want.

The strategies you will learn at Trader Cobb can also be used on any timeframe. If you don’t want to spend a lot of time in front of the charts, you can trade the higher timeframes like the daily. If you want to be more active, you can trade the lower time frames like the 15min, 30 min or 1hr.

The other great thing about Trader Cobb is that you will learn when to stay out of the market; this is very important. As I have already mentioned, trading psychology, trading plans & strategies all play an important role in your success as a trader. Trader Cobb doesn’t just sell a strategy; he sells the complete package.

The best bit is you can start for free and decide if crypto trading is for you without outlaying a cent.

  1. Thank you so much for this amazing article on trading crypto currency.  I had been hesitate on doing this for a long time, thinking crypto currency will not go anywhere, and I have been so wrong on that account.  It has been doing great lately!  I love your section on psychology though, because you do not sugar coat the fact that the market is ran by fear and greed, and that is so true my friend!

    1. Hi Jessie, As long as the market is going somewhere you can trade it but yes there have been some good moves lately in the crypto markets, BTC just reached $61,000 recently a new ATH.

You can’t sugar coat anything in trading if let your emotions control you you are guaranteed to fail.

  2. Crypto currencies are indeed very volatile and could therefore be a very risky investment. I have been scared of trading in crypto, mainly because I do not have enough knowledge, so I invested in an Ethereum ETF as a start.

I found this post on how to trade crypto very educational and with the free course that is available with Trader Cobb, I feel I can be brave enough to try it.

    1. You have got nothing to lose by trying the free course, but I am sure, if nothing else, you will get a better understanding of how the crypto markets work.

It is a volatile market, but that is good for trading. Risk management is a big part of trading successfully but don’t worry, the course covers this.

  3. HI Dave

I really enjoyed your post.  I have recently started looking into Crypto as a way to diversify my portfolio. I agree with you that the world is changing and that crypto has a part to play within our assets.

I had not thought about the idea of actually trading in crypto and so I found that interesting. It is necessary to educate ourselves and having mentors is paramount and great that Craig Cobb offers some free advice to start the journey. Great that the crypto market is open 24 hours.

I have bookmarked your site and I look forward to reading your information.

    thank you so much

  4. Thanks for this very sound and helpful information.

I appreciate that you have made it clear that you need to have a plan in place and that you must stick to it all costs.  We can so easily get caught up in the moment and ‘give it a go’, but you are wisely telling us not to do so.

It is also great that you have years experience, so that we know we can trust your advice to keep us right.

The course you are suggesting that we follow looks like the best way for us to get started.

    1. The free course is great Geoff, a lot of people have said it is better than courses they have paid big bucks for.

Learning to trade is not hard being disciplined to stick to your plan is the hard part. It is solid info and does work, Geoff. I personally use only the strategies Trader Cobb teaches because they are simple and they work.

I can highly recommend you try the free trading course because it is the best way to get started.

  5. Thanks for this great review, Dave. I really have been sitting on the fence with trading in Cryptocurrency. Many years ago I used to do option trading and it was fun and I made a lot of money but it was pretty intensive. You are really tempting me to sign up for Trader Cobb’s free training course to see if it all makes sense to me. Even better that you said that I can try it all free and see if it works. Wishing you all the best in your trading.

I’ve bookmarked your article to keep the links for when I am ready to get started.

    1. Hi Lily, I use to trade options as well my strategy was Bull Put Credit spreads. It was way more complicated than crypto.

If you have traded options you will get crypto with no problems. I would highly recommend trying the free course. It is delivered in short videos and really is simple compared to options, I am certain it will make sense. Switching to crypto was the best decision I ever made.

You know you can earn really good interest on your crypto as well, have a look at this post ==> https://2dsirecrypto.com/cake-… anyway good luck and when you get started just shoot me a message if you have any questions.

  6. Because crypto is a relatively new investment, I think many feel it’s somehow different from regular trading.  I felt that way until I read this and now it doesn’t feel so scary! I appreciate the way you put this all down in black and white to go over setting up a trading plan (on paper), rely on a trading strategy to decide what to buy, and set your mind in the right place (analytical not emotional).  Thank you for sharing!

    1. Hi Cynthia, Yes making it 100% mechanical has worked for me. I still use my checklist that way emotions DO NOT get in the way. I just use basic Tech Analysis and a checklist and keep it simple, it works.
